Riverbed Technology has unveiled the new version of its mobile WAN optimisation offering, Steelhead Mobile 3.1, which feature optimisations for Microsoft applications.

The company said that its new version provides enterprises and governments the ability to take advantage of performance optimisations for Citrix virtual desktops and Microsoft enterprise applications and protocols for mobile workers.

Steelhead Mobile 3.1 accelerates Citrix traffic from data centres to branch offices to remote and small office users, which results in bandwidth savings of up to 50 to 80% over uncompressed desktop traffic.

Riverbed said that the new WAN optimisation offering features enhanced optimisations for Microsoft applications including: support for both network and application layer optimisations for Exchange 2010; and encrypted MAPI.

The new version provides optimisations for SharePoint which reduces latency effects and speed response times by up to 30% for navigation within SharePoint portal.

Steelhead Mobile 3.1 also optimises Microsoft Online services such as encrypted and unencrypted exchange Online and SharePoint online environments.

Riverbed vice president of product marketing Apurva Dave said that the introduction Steelhead Mobile 3.1 helps organisations of any size to overcome the performance challenges involved in delivering business-critical applications and data to their remote workers.
