RIM has slashed prices of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to $299, as three of its models, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, shall be offered at the same price.

For some consumers, however, spending that amount on an ‘obsolete’ handsets will not be too appealing, as the models are soon poised to complete their life-cycle in the market.

This move by RIM, effective till February 4, will enable the users save up to $400 on a single device, and would offer the company an opportunity to clear its inventory.

There are several reasons for the PlayBook having not done well, which include software bugs and the absence of a native email client.
