Quick – call it back again – the natives are revolting: Milpitas, California-based Read-Rite Corp announced on Saturday that it was accelerating the transfer of production of disk head sliders to its plant in Thailand – but the news on Sunday about serious civil strife in Bangkok could well have given it a nasty jolt; the company says that as part of this transfer, it has retrained and reassigned 175 employees at its Milpitas facility and is reducing employment by 100 direct labour jobs; it wants to clear space in Milpitas to expand its wafer fabrication capacity for the thin-film disk heads that it makes.
