RDI Computer Corp, San Diego, California pioneer of portable Unix computers, is adding a new family of PowerLite systems to its range of portable Sparc machines. Using 50MHz microSparcs, they deliver up to 60 MIPS and come with up to 80Mb RAM and 1Gb disk, running Solaris 1.1C. It’s offered with 640 by 480 or 1,024 by 768 colour screens. PowerLite comes with Virtual Workgroup Architecture software – tools and applications for network administration, connection and facsimile management. A 640 by 480 pixel PowerLite with a 340Mb disk costs from $10,000. The PowerLite 1024 costs $16,000. Both the new machines ship in December. A peripheral expansion unit is available to enable extra disk, Sbus slots or SCSI peripherals to be attached to the machines. With 450Mb disk and two Sbus slots, the expansion unit costs $3,000. A BriteLite LX portable with a new 1,024 by 768 pixel active colour matrix liquid crystal diode display, a 450Mb disk drive and 16Mb of memory will cost $22,000, and it is available in January.
