Rank Xerox Ltd has announced its first colour production laser printer, the Xerox 4700, which can print up to 40,000 pages per month: the Xerox 4700 is aimed at both office workers and designers and marketing agencies, being the first laser printer with a Pantone licence; the licence provides access to 1,000 colours on the Pantone palette; colour quality has been improved by means of newly-patented patented Xerographic inks; the Xerox 4700 can be used with Apple Computer Inc’s Macintosh, MS-DOS machines, Unix workstations and mainframes, with such packages as Quark Xpress, Word, and Adobe Illustrator; two concurrent data ports, one serial and one parallel, enable two environments to be connected to the printer simultaneously; it is PostScript-compatible, and has a resolution of 300 dots per inch; the Xerox 4700 prints 7.5 colour pages per minute or 30 black and white pages per minute, and switching between the two functions is automatic; it will be available from January and price starts at ?31,000 depending on configuration.
