New York-based RAM Mobile Data Inc has announced that it is developing a suite of technologies designed to encourage the development of products and services for its wireless data networks. Called RAMparts, the technology comprises software for licensing to third parties, applications developers, and large end-user organisations. It is centred on a Unix-based mail engine which in addition to full electronic mail functionality, is said to provide delivery capabilities for facsimile and paging, and links to the Internet and X400 systems. The company adds that specialised applications to support two-way paging and information services delivery are also under development, as are user agents for portable computers running under MS-DOS, Windows, Macintosh and on pen-based systems. The first elements of the system are expected to be available during the first quarter of next year, but the company is not yet revealing pricing details.
