Users of the Quark Xpress desktop publishing package are increasingly finding that swapping editable Quark files between overseas offices and bureaus is a major headache: the problem is that Quark Version 3.2 has been out for some time, while upgrades for existing versions of Quark are still unavailable, at least in the UK; machines running older versions of Quark cannot, of course, access Quark 3.2 files; Quark’s UK branch, Quark Systems Ltd of Guildford, says it hopes to start sending out upgrade forms within the next few weeks but in the meantime, what do you do? When we rang up for advice about how to get round the problem for one of our own Quark formatted newsletters, managing director Tara Miller told us testily If it’s that critical, go out and buy a new copy; Quark 3.2 costs UKP625 for a single user licence, and we’d still be faced with the cost of upgrading all our other Macs… do other Quark users get this same high level of service? Quark in the US acknowledged that it was a problem, but it could offer no solution.
