The QNX Aviage acoustic processing kit reduces driver distraction by improving voice intelligibility on both sides of a handsfree conversation. Besides filtering out wind, fan, and road noise, it will eliminate the echo and screeching feedback that can occur when the microphone picks up the sound from the car speakers.

The QNX Aviage kit also offers a unique feature that fills in the limited bandwidth of cell phone calls, providing richer sound quality and making it easier for the driver to understand the remote party.

Andrew Poliak, automotive business manager at QNX, said: Hands-free and speech-enabled in-car systems help to reduce driver distraction, but the goal now is to make these systems available for all classes of vehicles. By eliminating costly hardware and nearly eliminating the costly tuning process, the QNX Aviage acoustic processing library makes such systems affordable for a much larger range of automobiles, including economy models.
