US President Barack Obama joined the social photo sharing app Instagram under the username barackobama on Tuesday.
Instagram became very popular in 2011 and was also named the Apple’s app of the year.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said they were excited to welcome President Barack Obama to Instagram. "We look forward to seeing how President Obama uses Instagram to give folks a visual sense of what happens in the everyday life of the President of the United States," said Systrom.

The account is being handled by the Obama 2012 staff, who encourages users to share photos from his campaign trail by using the hashtag #Obama2012.

President Obama’s account has three photos and 18,186 followers.

After using social media’s help to win the Presidential elections in 2008, Obama can now be seen on other social apps, including Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

The iOS app of Instagram has more than 50m users and Systrom said that the company was readying an Android version.
