PixelFusion Ltd is look for another round of funding as its innovative 3D graphics chip design nears tape out. The Bristol, UK-based company has begun an effort for a private placement of 1.3 million shares at 7.5 pounds ($12.15) each to gain 10 million pounds ($16.2m) of funding. The company’s first chip, the Fuzion 150, is targeted at the high-end workstation market. However, as we have previously noted (CI No 3,469), the design, which basically replicates a vast number of microprocessor cores on a single die, could have uses beyond the over-crowded graphics processor market in cryptography, speech recognition and spatial/audio computing, for example.
