Eastman Kodak Co has announced a telecine system jointly developed with Philips Broadcast Television Systems GmbH of Weiterstadt, Germany and designed for the digital image compositing industry. In addition, later this year, the two companies will release the Cineon telescanner, which is based on Kodak’s scanning engine and will offer a data port for use in transferring digital video images from the telecine to a computer network. Kodak and Philips are working together to link the new telecine to Cineon workstations and software to provide a complete digital imaging system for film and video post- production, explains Aidan Foley, general manager of Kodak’s Digital Motion Imaging group. Under terms of the agreement, Kodak and Philips will market their own distinct versions of the telescanner product. Telescanners that go out under the Kodak brand name will be manufactured by Philips to Kodak specifications under an OEM deal.
