Philips Electronics NV’s Media Division yesterday announced that it has taken over UK entertainment software distributor Leisuresoft Ltd, of Northampton, UK, but gave no financial details. The new acquisition reflects Philips Media’s continued strategy to increase its distribution muscle across Europe, the Eindhover said, noting that it follows similar deals in France and Germany in 1995 and 1996. Philips revealed that Leisuresoft, which employs 52 people, reported a loss in its last published accounts but declined to elaborate. It was also unable to give a turnover figures for the company. Philips says it wants the firm because it provides it with an established distribution network in the UK via major retailers, and a telesales unit.
