Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co says it is seeking partners for a second fiber optic cable project from the Philippines to Guam costing $100m and is open to having international partners. It says Kanematsu Corp of Japan has expressed its interest to join the company in the cable project. Philippine Long Distance also signed a memorandum of understanding with AT&T Corp and Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co Ltd to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of the cable system. It says it will meet with potential investors by the second week of October. The high-capacity fiber-optic system will increase the company’s existing capacity for data transmission by 20 to 50 times for domestic and regional use. It is scheduled to operate by 199
