Panorama, which built some of the original BI software included in Microsoft’s SQL Server database, has announced a deal with Cambridge, Massachusetts-based BPM specialist Pegasystems to weave process logic into its NovaView BI suite.
As a result Pegasystems’ Smart BPM platform is now being integrated into Panorama’s NovaView BI platform. The integration will effectively allow users to initiate a process or workflow directly within NovaView and pull BI object, like reports, analyses and dashboards, into a process design tool for integration at specific decision nodes within a business process.
Panorama has also officially joined Pegasystems’ Pega Exchange partner network.
BI today is about actions with context and business processes are becoming less and less manually-driven, said Eynav Azarya, CEO of Toronto, Canada-based Panorama who sees increased convergence between the BI and BPM markets.
Our View
While Panorama’s Proactive moniker should be taken with a pinch of salt – like Pervasive BI – the ideas behind it show how BI and BPM are coming together in interesting ways. The first wave of integration is largely being done around process-driven dashboards.
But companies are also maturing their approach with activity-based monitoring tools that aim to trigger some kind of BI action based on a data or process event. Perhaps another level of sophistication can be achieved when business rules are thrown into the BI to govern when and how BI reports, analysis and dashboards should be applied in discrete steps of a business process.
