With a knighthood for Professor Bryan Carsburg, UK Director General for Telecommunications, a CBE for ICL chairman and managing director Peter Bonfield, and an MBE for Doug Eyeions, Director-General of the Computing Services Association, information technology takes a prominent place in the New Year Honours List. In addition, Philip Harris, head of the Network Operations Service Department of British Telecom gets a CBE, and Sean Curran, director of Standard Telephones & Cables Northern Ireland Ltd an OBE. Richard Henshell, chairman of Nottingham CAD/CAM software house Pafec Ltd is awarded the OBE, as is Dennis Smith, principal consultant at Plessey Research Ltd. And there is an MBE for Derek Knibbs, lately personnel and quality manager at Rank Xerox Ltd. Overseas, Frederick McInerney, lately chief executive, Telecom Corp of New Zealand, receives the OBE.
