The Cupertino, California-based company’s rationale for the move was that recreational internet gambling consumes a considerable amount of WAN bandwidth that can negatively impact the performance of business critical applications and stymie employee productivity.

The new plug-in, which can be downloaded free of charge by customers on existing service contracts, gives them a significant tool that will help them preserve bandwidth and prioritize their most vital applications and network traffic, said David Puglia, Packeteer’s VP of marketing.

In particular, the plug-in is designed to detect Xbox games that use Xbox Live for networked gaming.
