San Jose, California-based Orca Technology Corp, one of the string of separate companies that rose from the ashes of Priam Corp, has introduced its first product, a high performance 760Mb 5.25 disk drive: the OT5 760-SCSI unit uses a low mass, balanced rotary positioner and digital servosystem to make it the fastest drive in its class – asynchronous data transfer rate of 1.8M-bytes per second and a synchronous data transfer of 4M-bytes per second; average access time is 14mS and an Embedded Thermal Compensation technique designed in the drive ensures data integrity over the wide operating temperature range and allows for rapid temperature changes up to 4oF every five minutes, the company says; out now, no indication of prices was given.
