With version 7.0 already looming on the horizon, Redwood Shores, California-based Oracle Corp has finally introduced version 6.0 of the Oracle Tools and Database for MS-DOS and OS/2. It enables applications to be developed on personal computers and then run without modification on any of the over 85 computer systems supported by Oracle. The tools include SQL Forms V3.0, SQL Menu V5.0, SQL ReportWriter V1.1, PL/SQL, SQL Plus V3.0, SQL Loader V1.0, Pro C V1.3, and MS-DOS Client Manager. There is claimed to be tighter integration between SQL Forms and SQL Menu, providing developers with a more intuitive interface – they now feature an interactive pull-down menu interface for designing and creating forms. There are now pop-up pages, pop-up lists of values, and context-sensitive help. SQL Forms 3.0 has enhanced tools such as automatic code generation for default master detail relationships, an expanded pre-defined trigger list, and support for the PL/SQL procedural SQL language extension. It features the ability to copy and re-use various objects including triggers, menus, procedures and valuable sections of code. SQL ReportWriter has added run-time flexibility, user exits, greater printer control and word wrapping. Pro C now supports Microsoft Windows 3.0. The new version requires MS-DOS 3.1 up, or OS/2 1.1 up. The tools are shipping now priced at $900, the tools with the database follow next month at $1,500.
