Oracle has agreed to pay $46m to settle a lawsuit that alleged Sun Microsystems, the company it owns, paid kickbacks to consulting companies to win government work.
In an announcement, the US Justice Department said the settlement also resolves allegations that Sun Microsystems provided incomplete or inaccurate information to government-contracting officers.
The Justice Department had alleged that Sun Microsystems and other companies paid kickbacks to consulting company Accenture PLC for Accenture to recommend that federal agencies buy Sun products.
Six other companies including Hewlett-Packard, EMC and Cisco Systems have settled similar charges.
US Assistant Attorney General Tony West said, "Kickbacks, illegal inducements, misrepresentations during contract negotiations — these undermine the integrity of the government procurement process and unnecessarily cost taxpayers money."
Oracle completed its acquisition of Sun Microsystems in 2010.
An Oracle spokeswoman refused to comment.
