Oracle has launched a new in-memory database technology for Database 12c, which would speed up database performance of analytics, real-time decision making, and rapid online transaction processing response times without modifying existing applications.
The new technology transfers work from disk drives to memory chips, while accelerating data analysis, data warehousing, reporting and online transaction processing (OLTP).
Oracle’s in-memory optimisations would offer instantaneous ad-hoc analytics on live transactional data, the company said.
According to Oracle, every application that runs on Oracle Database 12c would automatically benefit from the new technology, while the existing applications would retain full database functionality while experiencing easy expedites.
The new database in-memory technology’s columnar format allows getting rid of costly analytic indexes, while simplifying development and management as well as lowering expenses by eradicating the need for sole databases and data structures.
Oracle Database Development senior vice president Andrew Mendelsohn said that organisations that make data-driven decisions have a distinct competitive advantage.
"The Oracle Database In-Memory Option will enable near instant analysis of data in existing applications allowing users to make better decisions faster and with complete confidence," Mendelsohn said.
Oracle is also planning to develop new applications that were earlier not viable over performance limitations.
