Optical Networks, an application performance monitor developer, has launched a new product aimed at application service providers. Snapshot uses Microsoft’s Netmon probe software to examine Windows NT 4.0 applications remotely, providing ASPs with a means of responding to customer queries about application performance issues.
The Mountain View, California-based company will release versions for Windows 95 and 98 in two weeks time, with Unix editions possibly coming early next year. Optimal will also develop connectivity for probes from Netscout and Network Associates. Pricing for Snapshot is $6,000 with AE (Application Expert), which uses information from the probe to resolve the fault, at $21,600. However, firms can rent the two for a year for a third of the price, which would seem to dovetail neatly with the trend in favor of renting the apps.
Optimal has also released a Get Optimized Programme aimed at consultancies. This gives access to Snapshot, AE plus some similar performance monitoring modules for databases from Oracle, Sybase, Informix and Microsoft’s SQL Server 6.5 (and 7.0 in three months time). This service, which has already received custom from Andersen Consulting, Cap Gemini and MCI WorldCom, costs $60,000 for five users for a year or $113,000 for ten users.
