Novell Inc yesterday gave the first pricing and availability details for its Netware 5.1 operating system. The Provo, Utah networking giant said the OS, the first to include its Novell Directory Services (NDS), would ship in mid-January, as expected, priced at $1,345 for a server license plus five users.
Speaking on a conference call Monday, Michael Bryant, director of marketing for Netware, described Netware 5.1, previously code- named Cobra, as the most successful product that Novell has ever released. Although the new pricing is more expensive than the previous release of Netware, which cost $1,195, users do get Novell’s new NDS eDirectory thrown in.
In addition, the OS includes both IBM Websphere application server and IBM’s Websphere Studio entry edition products as well as Netscape’s Enterprise Server web server and a five-user license of Oracle Corp’s 8i database. A 10-user license is available for $1,430; a 25-user version at $3,155; a 50-user license at $5,455 and a 100-user offering at $10,745.
