As reported briefly, Nokia Telecommunications said it would supply Dansk Mobiltelefon A/S with a Groupe Speciale Mobile digital mobile telephone network worth about $75m: the customer is a joint venture owned 51% by Danish GN Store Nord A/S, with the rest owned by BellSouth Corp and Nordic PCN AB of Sweden; the contract includes two Nokia DX 200 MSC exchanges, more than 100 base stations, transmission equipment, implementation and maintenance, said Nokia; the system is planned to cover all of Denmark in 1994; Nokia also said it won an order worth more than $10m to expand the cellular network for Thailand – as well as expanding mobile telephone exchange radio channel capacity, the deal included a major order for Nokia’s DMR2000 radio equipment and the expansion will secure subscriber capacity in Bangkok until mid-1992; system deliveries will start in November and are to be completed in four months.
