Nokia said it plans to have 40% of its Mobile Phones Business Group handsets designed in China. The post-doctoral program will cover a range of areas associated with handsets, including Asian interfaces, 3G and other radio technologies. The vendor will also set up a technology platforms unit in China, and a CDMA R&D center in Beijing.
Handset vendors have been falling over themselves to burrow their way into the burgeoning Chinese communications market. However, some of these ventures have been seen as a way for some also-rans to effectively divest themselves of their handset assets.
