Under terms of the agreement, Tellabs and Nokia will further develop an integrated transmission solution for the 3G radio access network for Nokia. Tellabs also will expand its network management system, the MartisDXX(R) Manager system, to control transmission equipment and provide end-to-end management for the 3G asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) radio access transmission network.

Tellabs is a leading provider of mobile transmission, and Nokia is a leading provider of mobile infrastructure. By working together, we can develop an aligned solution that better serves our customers and gives them a clear competitive advantage, said Heikki Hiltunen, vice president and general manager of Tellabs’ Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

To help quickly meet customer demand for 3G solutions, Tellabs is establishing a new research and development team next to Nokia’s research and development site in Duesseldorf, Germany.

The first outcome of this collaboration will be a further development of 3G base station integrated ATM cell switch and transmission solution for the radio access network. This solution will benefit mobile operators who are building or migrating to 3G mobile markets as well as 2G operators considering new investments in their networks.

This agreement is another step in the previously announced collaboration between Nokia and Tellabs.
