Ericsson is to deploy its 3G macro base stations on the operator’s W-CDMA network; the Swedish company’s new micro base stations, which are designed to be efficient in urban areas, will be positioned in hotspots such as subways. Nokia, meanwhile, will expand J-Phone’s radio-access network.

The partnerships are part of J-Phone’s new strategy to rapidly deploy cost-effective outdoor base stations. The strategy is intended to accelerate the rollout pace of its 3G network, while significantly reducing investment requirements.
