Nintendo Co Ltd says the Ultra 64 64-bit cartridge games machine, formerly codenamed Project Reality, is expected to have a microprocessor clock speed greater than 100MHz. The arcade version is due at the start of 1995 and the home video system will be out the following autumn priced under $250. It will feature real-time three-dimensional graphics, 24-bit colour and CD-quality audio. It should have over 100,000 polygons generated per second, and exceed 100 millions of instructions per second and 100 millions of floating point operations per second. It will have real time anti-aliased three dimensional texture mapping to give more realistic graphic images. Alias Research Ltd, the three dimensional computer graphics developer has charge of the content tools to enable game designers to create more advanced characters and settings for the games. Rare Ltd, the UK software developer in Warwickshire will develop one of the first 64-bit games for the system, Killer Instinct, which unsurprisingly is a fighting game, based in the future, but with what Nintendo says will be stunning graphics and sound. Another UK company, DMA Design Ltd, is also involved in games development. Acclaim Entertainment will be developing a video game for the system called Turok; Dinosaur Hunter based around the comic adventure. WMS Industries will develop, manufacture and distribute games for the Ultra 64 in the arcades. The first game will be the racing game Cruisin’ USA that features roads in the US as its race track.
