Nintendo of America Inc is taking its popular Game Boy handheld video game device into a new realm by launching a package that turns it into a digital camera. Game Boy Camera is a cartridge featuring a swiveling, big-eye lens that fits into the Game Boy or Game Boy Pocket units. The camera can take and store up to 30 black-and-white images and allows users to manipulate the images in several ways. Nintendo also will launch the Game Boy Printer that can be attached to the camera to print photos or photo stickers. The camera cartridge will go for $50, while the printer retails for $60. The camera was introduced in Japan in February and, Nintendo says, sold nearly 500,000 units in its first three weeks of availability. The company claims that the Game Boy has sold more than 60 million units since its initial release in 1989.
