Expected to be in operation by October 2001, this expansion will increase Ningbo Unicom’s network capacity by 350,000 subscribers to a total of 910,000. It is also expected to provide the foundation for future introduction of high-performance Wireless Internet services in Ningbo, a prosperous coastal city in eastern China’s Zhejiang province.

The contract includes Nortel Networks advanced GSM fractional frequency re-use capability, which will enable Ningbo Unicom to triple GSM base station capacity without additional hardware and with no compromise in service quality.
