Beginning today, SkyMiles(R) members will earn 5,000 Delta frequent flyer miles when they sign up for any of Nextel’s wireless service plans.

Frequent flyers are highly mobile, affluent, and tech-savvy business people and high-end consumers, said Tom Kelly, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Nextel. By teaming with Delta Air Lines, Nextel is able to offer our four-in-one suite of integrated wireless services to one of our target markets, the frequent flyer, in a cost-effective manner. Frequent flyers will benefit from the ability to earn miles toward award travel.

SkyMiles members are frequently on the go and increasingly rely on wireless phone service, said Christine Pierce, Delta’s director of relationship and interactive marketing. This partnership, Nextel’s first with an airline frequent flyer program, allows our members to earn miles as they stay connected to their business associates, families, and others.

Nextel provides wireless services including digital cellular, Nextel Direct Connect(R) which is a digital two-way radio feature, text and numeric messaging, two-way messaging and wireless Internet access, the only nationwide IP packet data network, and the only Java-enabled wireless phones in the U.S.
