It remains our view that the outcome of the Internet feeding frenzy will be that while what is now being built will be of enduring value for many millions of people, any real killing to be made has already been made by people that got into companies like Netscape Communications Corp and Yahoo! Inc early and have long since bailed out. As for the companies themselves, a handful of solid majors will emerge, but most will end up being acquired at a fraction of their current valuation, and while t here will be useful profits to be made, there will be no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. However, it’s not too late to take profits and bail out. As Bill Gates says in his book The Road Ahead, A few will pay off, but when the frenzy is behin d us, we will look back at the wreckage of failed ventures and wonder ‘Who funded those companies? What was on their minds? Was that just mania at work?’ .
