Packard Bell Inc of Chatsworth, California has introduced two new upgradeable high-performance computer systems and packaged them with an exclusive suite of Windows applications from Lotus Development Corp: the Packard Bell 486SX, an upgradable 20 MHz 80486SX system, and the Packard Bell 486DX, a 33MHz 80486 system use the absurd new Intel Corp upgrade processor; in addition to Microsoft Windows 3.0, Packard Bell’s new software bundle includes Lotus 1-2-3 for Packard Bell – a special Windows version of the spreadsheet, Lotus Write Windows word processor, Lotus SmartPics clip art package for Windows, Packard Bell’s own graphical support and tutorial modules, a Prodigy Interactive Service Startup Kit and one month of free service, and MS-DOS 5.0 with DOS shell and QBasic; both machines offer 4Mb of RAM upgradeable to 32Mb, 8Kb cache, dual high-density floppy disk drives, extended VGA graphics, 2,400 baud internal modem support, and over 100Mb of high-speed disk storage; the 486SX and 486DX offer 8Kb of cache RAM and an additional 128K of cache through an optional cache memory module; the 486SX will cost from $2,400, the 486DX $2,800.
