Bruncor subsidiary New Brunswick Telephone Co Ltd and Northern Telecom Ltd report that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a broadband multimedia network for the Canadian province: New Brunswick plans to invest about $125m in the project; Northern Telecom will provide major network components and systems integration for the project; in September, New Brunswick plans to launch screen-based services that will enable customers to bank, shop and access government services from their home telephones; users can also access advertising selectively; it will offer access to 20,000 homes and businesses in St John by the end of 1995 and to 60% of New Brunswick homes and businesses by December 1998; early applications will include multimedia-on-demand for teachers and home shopping services.
