NEC Computer Systems, a division of Packard Bell NEC Inc has unveiled its new line of PowerMate built-to-order PCs, aiming squarely at the small to medium-sized business market. Users can choose from Pentium MMX in 200Mhz and 233Mhz versions or Pentium II in speeds of 233Mhz, 266Mhz or 300Mhz. Other features include 24X CD-ROM, 16-bit SoundBlaster Audio, Intel 10/100 Ethernet and choice of hard drives from 3.2 GB to 6.4GB. All boxes come preloaded with Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Microsoft Office 97 Small Business Edition, Intel’s Client Manager, Cybermedia FirstAid 97 and McAfee VirusScan. NEC is selling the new systems over the web at www.necnow.com as part of the direct sales model it implemented in August last year. Prices range from $1,250 to $2,250 depending on configuration.
