In what is being widely seen as a reflection of a position of weakness despite its continuing dominance of the Japanese personal computer market, NEC Corp says it is considering launching Pentium servers to the IBM Japan Ltd standard. NEC flatly denied the possibility of abandoning its own PC-9800 standard for IBM’s DOS/V. In five years, there will be no NEC proprietary format on the market, added Reinier Dobbelman of S G Warburg. NEC denied reports that it might sell IBM-compatible desktops.
