NEC Corp will unveil the first PostScript 3 web-ready printer at this year’s Seybold internet printing and publishing show in San Francisco. Aimed at the corporate market, the SuperScript 4400 series includes two color laser printers: the 4400 and the network-ready 4400N. The models offer print speeds of four color or 16 monochrome letter pages per minute. According to market research group, Seybold, while many printers offer web-based printer administration facilities, there have yet to be any that offer true web printing. But NEC’s new models offer enhanced internet printing features, it says. The 4400N features NEC’s PrintAgent, incorporating Adobe Web-Ready printing technology and HDE’s Redips technology which enables users to print to remote printers via the web. This means users no longer need a specific print driver loaded on their local client or a specific application to print the job. Both printers support either Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.0. The SuperScript 4400 lists at $3,499 and the 4400N for $3,999. The Seybold show runs August 30 to September 4.
