NEC last week finished off the restructuring of its global PC business, a process which began earlier this month with the demise of the company’s Packard Bell brand in the US, and the loss of roughly 80% of the 2,600 personnel employed by Packard Bell NEC in the US. NEC has now said it will re-center its global business in Wijchen, the Netherlands, where its Packard Bell NEC Europe unit will be renamed NEC Computers International BV. The renamed company (95.6% owned by NEC Corp, and 4.4% by France’s Groupe Bull SA) will assume responsibility for both NEC and Packard Bell branded PCs and servers in all markets except Japan and China. Additionally, the US Packard Bell NEC unit will be renamed NEC Computers.
