Novell Inc has explained how it’s using object technology from companies it’s invested in out of its internet fund for ‘start- ups.’ The Poet Software Inc work is used for the NetWare install. The ObjectSpace Inc investment is all to do with spaces technology similar to Sun Microsystems Inc’s Jini and JavaSpaces work. It will be incorporated into future versions of the NDS Novell Directory Services. Novell’s NDS aims got a shot in the arm this week Lucent Technologies Inc said it would bundle NDS with its Cajun gigabit switch. Lucent will eventually deliver NT, Solaris and NetWare cuts of NDS for Cajun. Solaris testing of NDS doesn’t begin until next year. It’s also up on HP-UX. Novell’s most recent investment in NetObjects Inc is to ensure there’s a robust web development environment for NetWare.
