National Semiconductor Corp and Harris Corp’s Harris EDA Electronic Design Automation unit have announced a business partnership in which Harris EDA will become the prime supplier of multichip module design systems for National Semiconductor: the value of the products and services stemming from the agreement could exceed $3m over the next three years; both companies will collaborate to provide multichip module design systems, services, and manufacturing capabilities and solutions; to that end, NatSemi has bought the Harris EDA’s Finesse multichip module design system used to produce customer-specific multichip module assembly designs; the two will jointly develop a number of Finesse multichip module Design Kits that fully describe the multichip module fabrication- and assembly-processes supported by National Semiconductor; the planned Kits will also produce initial set-up parameters for placing, auto-routing and manufacturing outputs that are optimally selected for design of high-yield, low-cost substrates.
