Taiwan chip maker Nan Ya Technology Corp says it is to become the chief DRAM microchip OEM producer for IBM Corp. IBM recently announced plans to exit the DRAM market systematically over the next few years, and is selling its 50% share in Dominion Semiconductor LLC, its joint venture with Toshiba (CI No 3,697). Last year IBM agreed to transfer 0.22 and 0.18 micron processing technology for DRAM products to Nan Ya (CI No 3,536), which it is already using it to make 64Mb chips with 128Mb chips under development. Nan Ya’s wafer fabrication plant has become the first in Taiwan to be certified by IBM. Nan Ya’s 200-strong research team is currently working to develop a new generation of 0.15 and 0.13 micron products.
