Motorola Inc has agreed to acquire a majority interest in Danish Bluetooth pioneer Digianswer A/S from Olicom A/S, as part of its strategy to develop Bluetooth and HomeRF wireless products. Motorola plans to embed Digianswer’s Bluetooth technology into its DigitalDNA products for wireless connectivity, portable computing and home networking products. Terms were not disclosed.
Motorola plans to merge Digianswer’s semiconductor products into its own product line, as well as delivering Digianswer functionality in product lines including cellular phones, two-way radios, broadband home networking products and automotive systems. Digianswer will provide Motorola with its Bluetooth wireless technology and co-develop a HomeRF offering with Motorola.
Digianswer was founded in 1986 and funded by Danish venture capital firms and Copenhagen-based data networking equipment supplier Olicom. It began developing digital answerphones and moved on to digital signal processing based voice processing applications. More recently, it’s been concentrating on the development of Bluetooth devices and technology.
