Herzlia-based Extricom’s claim to fame is that it offers WLAN infrastructure designed to concurrently support real-time, mobile applications such as voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) as well as data and video applications, it argued in announcing the investment. This enables corporate customers to build large-scale WLAN networks with a high level of dependability to support triple-play services.
Extricom has developed a technology that well suits Motorola’s seamless mobility strategy – providing a transparent experience, said Matthew Growney, managing director of Motorola Ventures. Seamless Mobility is the Schaumberg, Illinois-based vendor’s concept for fixed-mobile and cellular-WiFi convergence, enabling voice and data calls to be carried by the most appropriate bearer, as determined by the location of the user, always from the same handset/mobile device.
