Motorola Codex has added two product lines, the 6500 and 6600 Series, to its X25 product range in the UK. The 6500 and 6600 families comprise packet-switching nodes, a Network Control System and Packet Assembler-Disassemblers, PADS, with a total of eight new products: 6503, 6505 PADS, 6525 Packet Switches, 6608, 6624, 6660 and 6690 Packet Switching Nodes, and the 6600 Series Network Control System, NCS. Motorola Codex has the 6600 Series as the result of a non-exclusive OEM deal with Hughes Network Systems of Germantown, Maryland: the 6500 Series was developed internally. The 6505 is an asynchronous PAD, available in six, 12, 18 and 24 port configurations, supporting network port speeds up to 72Kbps and terminal port speeds up to 19.2Kbps; the 6503 PAD supports synchronous and asynchronous terminals and up to 22 ports; both can be used to interface asynchronous devices to Public Packet Data Networks. The 6525 is a packet switch available in configurations of up to 48 ports, supporting network port speeds up to 80Kbps and terminal port speeds up to 19.2Kbps, and the 6608 is an eight-port packet switch. The 6624 is a combined packet switch and concentrator with eight to 24 ports operating at speeds up to 64Kbps, and is able to function as an X25 concentrator or backbone switch. The 6690 provides nodal performance of 3,000 data packets per second and 500 ports per node, while the 6660 provides 170 port capacity at 510 data packets per second. The Network Control System offers on-line services and distributes network management around the network.
