Commtouch said that in April 71% of the URLs found in spam directed to web servers in China, compared to 22% that were in the US. Brazil, a notorious haven for malicious hackers, came third, with 2.2% of sites.

However, only 6.2% of spam actually was sent from IP addresses found in China, according to the same research. IP addresses in the US sent 60.5% of spam, Commtouch said. South Korea, known as a broadband-heavy country, sent 4.9% of spam.
