The Microprocessor Forum in San Francisco, November 6-7, will see the debut of a new, highly integrated PC-on-a-chip, according to the organisers. Two other companies – neither in the microprocessor business at present – will describe new 80386-compatible CPUs. Texas Instruments Inc will reveal details of its Viking Sparc chip, which is to be used in Sun Microsystems Inc’s forth coming Galaxy multi-processors, while Advanced Micro Devices Inc, Intel Corp and Fujitsu Ltd will unveil new members of their embedded RISC families. Advanced RISC Machines Ltd – ARM – the Apple Computer Inc-Acorn Computers Plc-VLSI Technology Inc venture set up last year to develop technology based on Acorn’s ARM RISC processor will describe its new ARM600 CPU (CI No 1,729).
