AEG AG’s minimaker ModComp, Modular Computer Systems in Fort Lauderdale, Florida has acquired the Computrol division of Kidde Automated Systems Inc, from Kidde’s new parent Hanson Plc. Computrol, headquartered in Ridgefield, Connecticut, supplies a range of communications products including coaxial cable and fibre optic networks, and Manufacturing Automation Protocol and Technical Office Protocol products. It develops and supplies local nets for factory automation, process control and nuclear power plant security systems in addition to other applications and pioneered the use of megabaud rates on coaxial cable for OEM customers, and claims to have delivered over 50,000 local network nodes. For fibre optic networks, it has developed a redundant dual ring for for factory automation and process control, and its early research work on phase-continuous modem technology over coaxial cable was adopted by the IEEE as one of the 802.4 standards. Computrol will be managed as a sep arate division remaining in Connec ticut. Terms were not disclosed.
