Most companies seems to build their point-of-sale and automatic teller machine terminals around personal computer motherboards these days, often with OS/2 as the operating system and Mitsubishi Electric Corp has released a 25MHz 80386-based point-of-sale terminal with 2Mb in its FlexStation T3800 series – but the operating system is something of a surprise because the company has gone to Novell Inc’s Digital Research subsidiary for an extended version of the multi-tasking Flex-OS system with programming in Master Cobol; it can exchange data and programs with the company’s Maxy AX specification personal computer; Mitsubishi is looking to sell 5,000 of the things over three years at $8,320 a time.
