Casio Computer Co Ltd will license Motorola Inc’s next-generation FLEX protocol for high-speed pagers and plans to develop high- speed pagers and begin marketing them globally in the second half of this year. It also aims to use FLEX in the development of other portable personal data terminals. Casio claims the FLEX protocol is being adopted by major paging service providers in the US, China and elsewhere, making it the de facto world standard for high-speed pagers. A two-way version of FLEX, known as ReFLEX, is being introduced in the US and Casio is evaluating it to develop two-way wireless messaging devices for the consumer market.
