A suite of tools for domain-specific language have been released as part of the first beta of Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2005 IDE, whichi is due later this year. The tools feature wizards that generate designers, a graphical designer for domain models, and a set of code generators.
Domain languages and tools feature in Microsoft’s strategy to simplify and speed-up development of applications. The company is planning a set of so-called Software Factories in Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 Team System (VSTS), which will provide tools, processes and content to suit development needs for specific deployment scenarios.
Microsoft believes Software Factories will challenge traditional techniques used by application lifecycle management (ALM) ISVs around the modelling and construction of applications.
