Microsoft’s RT Audio Codec is used to compress digital speech samples into a digital media bitstream. It converts analog sound into digital packets for transmission and then restores the data into audible sound. The codec can be used in audio conferencing, video and wireless applications.
Intel plans to use the codec in a forthcoming Intel Integrated Performance Primitives software library release for PCs, for example.
Microsoft also announced yesterday its new Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Quality of Experience Monitoring Server. The server is designed for IT administrators to troubleshoot voice and video performance issues by producing real-time updates, alerts and analysis of network performance.
